Welcome to Fair Dinkum

Paddling on a Dragon Boat is not for the Faint Hearted!

Twenty plus people on one boat, paddling in perfect unison. It’s a wonder that the thing ever gets out of first gear.

Lucky for FD, one of our pre-conditions for new paddlers joining the dragonboat team is that they must possess outstanding rhythm.

The great thing about paddling is it can be jovial and relaxing, or it can be power packed and physical. Our dragonboat squad happens to be able to balance both, by always remembering that whether we’re competitive or not:
– everyone gets a chance to paddle; and
– we always have fun.

Fair Dinkum has always had success using this simple formula, with the club winning the Expatriate B Cup final in our first year (2007). Absolutely nobody had heard of us, yet with teamwork, real team spirit and everyone paddling for each other, we took out the final.

Our crews now compete in some of the top divisions of all tournaments, locally and overseas, paddling against professional squads who are paid to paddle for their livelihood.

Our more social teams are pivotal to our success though, working together with our competitive teams to “keep us real” and retain the Fun in “FD”. It’s our social team, that really provide the foundation for the entire squads success.

Teamwork

As all Dragon Boaters know, teamwork is an essential part of the sport. It is essential that people work together on the boat. If one person is off it can throw off the whole boat. What this means is that it is a great sport for learning how to be a part of a team.

Socializing

All work and no play makes a Dragon Boater burn out! We want to have fun while we are working hard. Don’t get me wrong. We do push ourselves and you will get sore muscles, but we want to make sure you have a smile on your face as well!

So, we have opportunities to get together outside of the boat, where you can keep it real and get to know your fellow dragon boaters.

Hard Work

We are after all a Dragon boat team! And if you are afraid of a little hard work then you probably should be on the boat. But a little hard work never killed anyone RIGHT?? We wanna WIN!! and that means putting in the hard yards. If you wanna slack off and relax, we may have a social boat…. but for those who really wanna kick some butt!

Be prepared to put in some work (perhaps even training in your own time at home, and get that satisfied sore muscle feeling, which lets you know you have done something worthwhile.
(Remember if you just want to hang out with dragon boaters consider asking us about a social membership option)

We Train in Stanley on Sunday Afternoons and have Land Training in Central during the week.  Please contact us for further information on times and Locations for Land Training.
